Mai Khao

Mai Khao is a village full of resorts on the west coast of Phuket, just north of the Phuket International Airport (HKT) and just south of the Sirinat Tourist Information Center for the Sirinat National Park. Mai Khao is the first beach you can reach on Phuket’s west coast after coming south across the bridge from the province of Phang Nga.

The entire area consists of resorts in natural settings, spread out in such a way that it makes for a very nice atmosphere, a totally relaxed and low-key environment for people who want that in a vacation destination. This is also an area where some families prefer to stay because some of the resorts cater to children.

Mai Khao Beach Phuket Mai Khao Beach is the longest beach on Phuket Island and is really one of the best for relaxing and forgetting about any stresses in your home country. Because the beach is so long, you won’t have any of the crowds to deal with as in Patong Beach or some of the other popular beaches on the island. The only visitors to Mai Khao are typically staying at a resort in the area.

The Andaman Sea at this beach is usually calm from November through April which is when the majority of people are visiting Phuket. If you want to really have a quiet stay, from May through October would be a great time to write a book on the beach here in this scenic spot with all your needs taken care of by the resort you’re staying in. That said, the shopping of Patong or Phuket Town is a little drive away, so you might want to rent a vehicle to drive there yourself, or leave it to the taxi drivers who can be paged from your resort lobby.

Mai Khao isn’t known for its shopping or nightlife, but of course you can find shops in many of the resorts around the area. There are also many restaurants to sample during your stay – you don’t even need to leave Mai Khao to eat a meal at a different restaurant every day of the week if you plan it right.

One thing you might want to plan, when staying in Mai Khao, is to visit the J W Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa as they have the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation on their resort ground. You can go for an information session to learn about sea turtle conservation from 11 am. to noon each weekday. Interesting for adults and kids!
